The British Council is planning a higher education mission of up to 20 Vice-Chancellors or Pro-Vice-Chancellors (Research/International) to visit Malaysia between 26 to 29 January 2026.

Malaysia is rapidly emerging as a dynamic regional education hub with growing demand for high-quality transnational education, expanding research collaboration, and investment in digital and AI infrastructure. This 4-day mission will spotlight opportunities in Malaysia’s thriving higher education and innovation landscape, particularly in Kuala Lumpur and the fast-rising Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

The mission aims to strengthen connections and mutual understanding between the higher education sector of both countries and help UK universities understand the fast-changing operating environment in Malaysia, with an added focus on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. The mission will focus on UK profile-building, transnational education and institutional partnership, research collaboration, alumni engagement, and enhancing the UK sector’s understanding of the latest policy and higher education landscape in Malaysia.

Working with Universities UK (UUKi) and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the British Council will structure the mission around higher education dialogues, government agencies meetings, partnership forums, alumni and industry engagements in Kuala Lumpur and Johor.
