Can my IELTS results be couriered to me?

We will send out the TRF via courier only by request. If you would like us to courier the TRF to you, please complete the TRF Courier Request Form and email it to info@britishcouncil.org.my before the test date. An additional fee applies for the courier to international addresses. Please allow at least seven days for the delivery. IELTS results will not be disclosed via phone, SMS, or email.

What should I do if I lose my Test Report Form?

If you lose your Test Report Form and need an additional copy, you may request it by completing the additional TRF request form and sending it to info@britishcouncil.org.my. The fee per copy will be MYR35 and limited to two additional copies only throughout the validity of your results. Additional courier fees may be applicable if you require us to courier the results to you.

How do I send copies of my TRF to institutions?

Institutions need original copies of your Test Report Form. Photocopies will not be accepted.

From the point of registration up to 2 years following the test date, you can ask us to send your results electronically or by post to up to five recognising organisations of your choice, free of charge; however, courier fees apply for physical copies.

For each additional hard-copy physical TRF requested over and above the free allocation, we will charge an administration fee of MYR 35 per copy and a courier fee per address.

If you took IELTS on Computer and would like to request this service, please include the relevant addresses and submit it on the Test Taker Portal. If you submit this application after the test date, please email to notify us your submission at info@britishcouncil.org.my.

If you took IELTS on Paper and would like to request this service, please complete the Additional TRF Application form and email it to info@britishcouncil.org.my

Please provide the full postal address of the institution to which you want us to send your results. We need the complete address to verify whether the institution has access to the IELTS Test Report Form Verification Service that allows them to view your results electronically. If they cannot access this service, we will send your TRF by post and courier charges will apply.

Can I amend my details on the TRF?

We may accept requests to amend incorrect details on the Test Report Forms (TRF) issued to the test takers. This can be under the circumstances when the details on the TRF do not exactly match the details on the test taker’s identification used in the registration process. This correction and amendment of details are limited to clerical errors, spelling mistakes, and incorrect details.

Please refer to the table below for IELTS products and eligibility for amendments.

Test Type Eligibility
IELTS on Computer Not Allowed. Amendments must be requested during the computer section on test day, and no amendments can be made after the test day.
IELTS on Paper Allowed
IELTS for UKVI on paper Allowed
IELTS for UKVI on computer Allowed
IELTS Life Skills Allowed

Any request for changes after the test, for example, a change of last name/surname due to marital status, a change of gender, or a change of ID due to ID expiry or loss/theft, will be declined.

Any request to amend TRF details that are incorrect must be made via email to info@britishcouncil.org.my

You must attach the necessary evidence (a copy of your ID used on the test day).

Before any amendments are made, you must return the original physical copy of the TRF where one exists.

TRF details amendments are free of charge except where courier service is required. Please send your request to info@britishcouncil.org.my.

What does my IELTS score mean?

You will be awarded an IELTS band score from 0-9 for each test section, reflecting your English proficiency.

Your TRF shows a score for each of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking), as well as an overall band score. You can score whole band scores (for example, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half band scores (e.g., 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) in each test section.

Find out more about what your score means here

How long are my IELTS results valid?

Organisations will usually not accept your results if they are over two years old unless you provide evidence that you have actively maintained or tried to improve your English since taking the test. The IELTS Partners cannot confirm the validity of test results that are more than two years old.

How can I get my IELTS test re-marked?

If you did not receive the expected score, you could apply for your test to be re-marked. This is called an Enquiry on Results (EOR). You can choose which test sections you want to be re-marked.

The fee for this service is MYR 430, which will be refunded if your score is increased for any test section. If your band scores change because of an EOR, you must return the original TRF before a new one is issued, and your refund is processed. Please wait for an email with instructions if your score changes. You will retain the original TRF if there is no change in band scores

You must apply for a re-marking by six weeks after the test date, regardless of whether you have taken IELTS on Paper or Computer. Please refer to the table below on how to apply based on the type of test you have taken.

Can I retake my IELTS test?

There are no restrictions on re-taking IELTS. You can book a test as soon as you feel you are ready to do so.

Please note that your score is unlikely to increase unless you make a significant effort to improve your English before re-taking the test. Visit the preparation section to take a practice test and assess your level.
