Leighton Ernsberger, Director of Education East Asia for the British Council, brings 17 years of experience in Higher Education and Skills policy across the UK, South Asia, and East Asia. Since joining the British Council in 2014, he has been instrumental in implementing Skills reform programmes in India and Nepal, as well as promoting Higher Education in South East Asia. With a background from the Institute of Education, University College London, Leighton’s expertise is highly regarded.

Louise Tracey is the International Recruitment Manager for South East Asia at the University of Edinburgh. She has been working in the higher education sector for almost 15 years in a variety of international admissions, recruitment, and marketing roles. Working across different regional markets, focusing on the South East Asia region since 2019, and in leadership roles across the Scottish higher education sector, her passion and expertise are in working with students to achieve their goals.

Fraser Deas is the Director of Client Success at Grok Global Services in London. With a focus on student recruitment, brand building, marketing, and partnership development, Fraser works closely with university clients from around the world to support the implementation of their international strategies. He also oversees the deployment and management of in-country university staff. Prior to his current role, Fraser lived and worked in Beijing for Grok and the British Council.

Sonia provides data analysis and coordinates insights for the East Asia region, informing UK education institutions and stakeholders of recent trends and policy developments in the region. She has 15 years of working experience as an analyst and economist across various organisations in Malaysia and Singapore, including a global financial company, the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, and an international organisation for macroeconomic surveillance.

Country Director Malaysia and East Asia Education Insights Hub Director, British Council

Jazreel joined British Council China in June 2004 where she led on the UK’s largest education marketing and partnership initiatives in mainland China. She has worked in various organisations in Malaysia, Australia, as well as Hong Kong in the areas of brand management, corporate planning and investment, international education consultancy, as well as in intellectual property licensing.

Charley Robinson works in UUKI’s policy and global engagement team on our international student recruitment and outward student mobility programmes. She has worked in universities in roles covering international student recruitment, partnerships, and outward mobility since 2007, most recently as Head of International at Goldsmiths University of London. She was previously on the British Universities International Liaison executive and chaired the China Regional Interest Group.

With a rich background as an international student and as the first university graduate in her family, Ula remains a passionate advocate for the transformative potential of UK higher education. Ula is the founder of the British Universities’ China Association.

Brian Greenwood has been Deputy Head of the International Student Recruitment Team at Bristol for the past 5 years. At Bristol, Brian is also the market manager for South East Asia and East Asia including managing an overseas office based in Malaysia. Brian is the lead on agent related projects at Bristol including relationship management, commission payments, and contract reviews.

Shonagh Maak is an experienced professional in the field of international education, with a career spanning over a decade. Currently serving as the Head of International Stakeholder Engagement at the University of Glasgow, she plays a crucial role in developing and managing international partnerships that bring students to the university. Her responsibilities include overseeing the university’s agent, sponsor, school counsellor networks, Study Abroad and International Summer School programs.

Secretary General, The Beijing Overseas Study Service Association (BOSSA)

Chenxing Sang is the co-founder and Chairman of BOSSA, the first and largest national association of study abroad professionals in China. With over 35 years of experience in international education, he co-founded BOSSA in 2004 under the guidance of the Beijing Education Commission, where he previously worked for more than 35 years. BOSSA is composed of accredited and government-licensed education agencies, many of which are among the largest in China.
