The British Council hosts annual pre-departure briefings to provide essential information to students and their parents prior to leaving to study in the UK.
The briefings include information on:
- visa application processes
- travel and finance tips
- accommodation options
The briefings also enable students to engage directly with Malaysia UK alumni to learn from their experiences of studying in the UK.

Pre-departure Briefings in Malaysia 2023
This year’s two main pre-departure briefings held in July and August attracted a total of 293 attendees, 109 of these online.
August 2023 Pre-departure Briefing
This online briefing included sessions on:
- latest visa processes by the British Embassy, Hanoi
- Malaysian UK alumni from the Universities of Manchester and Surrey who shared their UK study experiences in a panel discussion

July 2023 Pre-departure Briefing
This hybrid event comprised sessions including:
- a Study UK Briefing
- Visa and Immigration processes
and a panel session including:
- British Embassy Bangkok
- UK Education Centre (UKEC)
- UK students from the University of East Anglia and Liverpool John Moores University
- British Council Women in STEM Scholar, an alumna of Liverpool John Moores University
‘Experience Study UK’ booths were staffed by the British High Commission, Chevening Scholars and UK alumni from 10 UK universities across England, Wales and Scotland.

April 2023 bespoke Pre-departure Briefing
The British Council gave a bespoke pre-departure briefing on invitation by Kolej Yayasan UEM (KYUEM) to 250 A level school-leavers.
