Organised in response to feedback from our first capacity training workshop, we worked with three local hub leaders and My Performing Arts Agency to deliver workshops focused on management skills and funding for creative hub leaders.
The Management Skills workshop was delivered in 3 different cities: Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Kuching. Liza Ho of the Zhongshan Building and Soon Wei of APW kicked things off by presenting the history, story, management model, and challenges of their respective hubs. The day was then spent discussing the important values and skillsets for good managers, mapping challenges and brainstorming possible solutions and responses. Participants came from Ipoh, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, and Penang. We were able to have the workshops themselves in 3 different creative hubs: APW, T(h)ree House within Hin Bus Depot and Borneo Laboratory.
The Funding workshop spanned 2 days, hosted in APW, and bringing together 20+ participants from all over Malaysia. On Day 1, participants heard presentations from John-Paul Davis of HAUS KCH, Izan Satrina of CENDANA, Erica Choong of Yayasan Sime Darby and Joel Santos of Thames International (Philippines) about different elements of the arts and corporate funding ecosystem in Malaysia and the Philippines. On Day 2, they got to apply their learnings by working in groups on a mock grant proposal, presented to a panel of judges from British Council Malaysia, Goethe-Institut Malaysia, Yayasan Hasanah, Yayasan Sime Darby, and Thames International.
