The British Council Malaysia invites proposals from experienced Malaysia-based curators and producers to develop and deliver a flagship Human-Nature showcase as part of the UK–Malaysia Spotlight 2027 programme.
About the Opportunity
The British Council's Human-Nature programme is a multidisciplinary arts initiative that explores the interconnected relationships between people, culture, ecology, communities, and the environment. Through research, artistic collaborations, fellowships, community engagement, knowledge exchange, and creative commissions, the programme has brought together artists, cultural organisations, researchers, scientists, Indigenous communities, and civil society partners from Malaysia and the UK to develop new narratives and responses to climate adaptation and sustainable futures.
In 2027, Human-Nature will form part of the UK–Malaysia Spotlight, a year-long programme marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Under the theme Human-Nature: Past, Present, Futures, the Spotlight will celebrate and develop creative collaborations between Malaysia and the UK.
As part of this programme, the British Council is seeking to appoint a Lead Curator-Producer to develop and deliver a flagship Human-Nature showcase in Malaysia. The showcase will bring together selected artistic works, collaborations, research and community stories emerging from the Human-Nature programme. The appointed curator-producer will work closely with the British Council and the UK commission producer to develop the wider showcase, coordinate its delivery and explore opportunities for presentation and touring.
The showcase may take place as a standalone event and/or through a series of presentations at festivals, galleries, cultural venues, public spaces and other relevant platforms across Malaysia, with potential opportunities in the UK subject to available budget.
