British Council Malaysia and British Council Indonesia have chosen lucky winners from each country to be part of the Global Social Business Summit 2013 in Kuala Lumpur as young challengers. The two Malaysian winners are Faiz Arshad (Recovr Initiatives) and Nazirul Amin bin Thalha (YOU GOT IT). They both received sponsorship for the participation fee worth €430.

• ‘Recovr Initiative’ aims to help communities with sustainable waste management programmes and empower underprivileged individuals (physical and/or learning disabled, hardcore poor, etc) through employment in the recycling industry. The social business venture is to create small centres within communities that can cater to hiring and serving their community and as a service provider, ‘Recovr Initiative’ aim to provide not only collection of recyclables, but also to introduce waste audit and reporting. • ‘YOU GOT IT’ is a social business venture that aims to provide undergraduate job incubation services and address unemployment issues among youths. Undergraduate youths will receive placement with selected SME based on their chosen career path during each semester break until they graduate. During this time, candidates will have access to soft skill training, on the job training and sharing of best practices from the SME operators. Upon graduation, the candidates will have gained valuable work experience, have a better understanding of their chosen career and have a sense of preparedness joining the workforce. Both the Young Challengers had access to a full day workshop consisting of inspiring talks, interactive workshops and will have an opportunity to participate in the summit. The highlight of the win was a chance to meet Nobel Peace Prize laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus.
