In collaboration with the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), PlaTCOM Ventures Sdn. Bhd. and the Innovation and Technology Managers Association Malaysia (ITMA), the two year (2017-2019) capacity building project aims to train and produce a pool of technology transfer professionals for Malaysia with international recognition under the purview of the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP).

A total of 22 participants attended the four ATTP accredited workshops and gained 60 Continuing Education (CE) points which enabled these participants to submit their applications to be registered and assigned the professional title “Registered Technology Transfer Professionals (RTTP)”. RTTP is the International Standard for evaluating the Professional Competence and Experience of practitioners working in Knowledge Exchange/Knowledge Transfer/Technology Transfer.

Impact

With the support from the Malaysian Industry-Government for High Technology (MIGHT), the Innovation and Technology Managers Association Malaysia (ITMA) has been registered and recognised an Alliance Association of ATTP since May 2019. This marks a great achievement for ITMA being the first and only Malaysian technology transfer association to join ATTP – the worldwide Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals.

Malaysia has a current pool of seven Registered Technology Transfer Professionals (RTTP) based at universities and agencies, with more expected to be RTTP certified in 2020.

With the growing number of RTTP certified technology transfer professionals, it is expected that  the certification of technology transfer professionals will create a professional career path for those who are currently working or interested to work in this area, leading to an increased pool of professionals and resulting in  an increase  of commercialisation rate, innovations protected and innovations transferred to industry or another entity for further development and commercialisation in Malaysia.
