The British Council Introduction to Young Learners course is for people who are interested in learning more about teaching English to children and how children learn a language.

What are the benefits?
Gain knowledge and understanding of the needs of young learners
This course aims to raise awareness of current English Language Teaching practice in the young learner teaching environment. It focuses on teaching 8 to 12 year old children. One session may focus on teaching very young learners and another on teaching teenagers.
Gain confidence in planning for effective young learner lessons
This course shows you how to plan and deliver effective lessons to children. The course lets you explore what Young Learner course books have to offer and develops your techniques for presenting grammar and vocabulary. We will also help you create and evaluate activities for skills development (reading, writing, listening and speaking).
This course is not assessed. A British Council certificate of attendance is given to those who have participated and attended the majority of classes.
How is it delivered?
The course covers a number of aspects related to teaching young learners (ages 8 to 12 years old), including:
- how children learn
- classroom management
- teaching language
- teaching skills
- lesson planning
- working with course books
- using stories
- teaching very young learners & teenagers
- assessment & feedback.
