The British Council East Asia is looking to procure a Consultant with expertise and track record in editing, formatting, and data visualization. This role will work closely with the Global Head of Research and Insights to perform editing and formatting of all reports and publications including data visualisation. 

This role will work closely with Global Head of Research and Insights to focus on formatting and editing all reports ensuring adherence to British Council style guidelines.

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties: 

The consultant should demonstrate the ability to:

  • Check for adherence to British Council style and/or brand editorial style guides
  • Ensure all final copy and design match approved job
  • Confirm pages are logically arranged and exist in their entirety
  • Assess design elements
  • Visualise and design charts/tables 
  • Ensure page numbers and headings are correct and casing style of heads and subheads is consistent throughout
  • Verify photos and illustrations are correctly captioned
  • Ensure proper licensing and copyright of all data, photos and illustrations
  • Cooperate and liaise with designers, photographers, freelancers as required
  • Comply with media law and ethical guidelines

Criteria and Skills: 

The consultant should demonstrate the following expertise and experience:

  • Passionate and driven about doing work that matters and creates positive influence, in an environment that values diversity and thrives on creativity
  • Strong writing/editing/proofreading skills in English language
  • Experience and understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods and data analysis would be preferred
  • Previous evidence of having undertaken editing and formatting work for high level reports and proceedings with the capability to think, articulate and write logically
  • Portfolio of data visualisation samples
  • Hands on experience with MS Office and InDesign, Photoshop or other publishing tools
  • Strong problem-solving ability applied in a structured way
  • An eye for detail 
  • A collaborator; ability to work as part of a small team as directed by the Global Research and Insights hub but at the same time, self -directed and able to work independently to strict deadlines. 
  • Willingness and ability to contribute to the development of approaches to ensure high quality report/publications
