Meet our teachers (Penang centre)

Coral-Anne Osborn

Coral-Anne Osborn has been teaching English for four years. She specialises in the English language and her forte is in teaching young learners. Originally from Kent, UK, Coral has a degree in English & TEFL and a CELTA qualification. Coral is now studying for her Delta qualification to continue to develop herself as a teacher, specialising in young learners.

 

Mersedeh Badrian

With 9 years of experience in EFL, Mersedeh has taught English to young learners, adults and working professionals throughout her career. Having spent most of her career with the British Council, she joined the Penang Teaching Centre in January 2017 and brings along diverse teaching experience and cultural understanding into the classroom.

Her most recent post was in the UAE as the Senior Teacher for IELTS. Prior to joining the team in UAE, Mersedeh worked in Kuala Lumpur. 

 

Derek Yeung Kwok Kee

Derek has been teaching English in Malaysia since 2002.  With a CELTA qualification and over a decade of teaching experience under his belt, Derek is one of the stalwarts of the teaching fraternity at the centre. Not known to many, Derek also has a degree in Landscape Design and Town Planning. British by nationality but Malaysian at heart, he is one of our most popular teachers across all levels.  

Euriska Wiyanto

Euriska started teaching in 2007, right after getting her bachelor’s degree in Psychology in her home country of Indonesia. She had been teaching very young learners in Surabaya, Indonesia for four years before doing her TESOL in Bali in 2011. After that she was based in Bali and taught a variety of classes such as general English, conversation classes, and exams to a range of students starting from primary school children to adults.

 

Jamaica Arvisu

Jamaica has been teaching English since 2011 where she started off teaching one-to-one online while living in the Philippines. She completed her CELTA in Vietnam and later moved to Malaysia where she taught adults general English for one year. She then returned to Vietnam where she taught young learners and completed her International House Certificate in Teaching Young Learners and Teenagers (IHCYLT). She has since moved back to Malaysia and has been with the British Council since July 2017.

Michael Lee

Michael Lee is an experienced teacher and trainer, having first taught English as a Foreign Language in China in 1999 and, subsequently, in Malaysia, Indonesia, Russia, UK, Libya and Egypt. Michael has a first degree in Theatre studies & History, from Liverpool University and a post graduate Bachelor of Philosophy degree in Modern History from Manchester University. He completed his DELTA qualification in London in 2009 and is a local DELTA tutor.

Ahmed Rafiq Manan

Rafiq Manan is a South African with almost 10-years’ experience working abroad in Asia and Middle East in industries as diverse as advertising and marketing to education. He has a degree in psychology, post-graduate diplomas in international marketing communications and copywriting as well as a TKT and CELTA.
