The Hubs for Good forum, held on 11 March 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, brought hubs from Malaysia together with counterparts from Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and the UK in Kuala Lumpur. This third regional forum is organised alongside the 8th World Summit on Arts and Culture, Co-hosted by the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN), Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Malaysia and the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA).
The event brought together leading policy makers, researchers, managers and practitioners from the arts and culture sector from around the world to examine how governments, cultural organisations, creative practitioners, and citizens can – and do – work together to actively lead change in a time of profound transformation. By hosting the forum alongside the World Summit on Arts and Culture, it allowed hubs to share their context, reflect on their impact as hubs, and connect with hub leaders from South East Asia and Summit participants.
The forum attempted to address the following questions:
- How do hubs contribute to creating thriving communities, social cohesion, diversity and well-being?
- How can hubs demonstrate their impact and benefit they bring?
- How can hubs work together to make themselves heard and influence stakeholders in government and other sectors?
The forum aimed to:
- Develop deeper connections between hubs by sharing with each other how hubs contribute to creating thriving communities, social cohesion, diversity and urban wellbeing
- Share approaches to how hubs can demonstrate their impact
- Share approaches to how hubs communicate with key stakeholders from Malaysia from government and business /social sector their impact and the benefit they bring.
A mini tour of local hubs in Kuala Lumpur – APW and Zhongshan Building – was also organized for the invited hub leaders from the region as well as a small group of participants from the Summit. Press release for the event is available here and photos of the forum are available on our Facebook page.
