Southeast Asia's first and only festival of ideas is back in 2018 for another week long event. Themed CTRL-ALT-DEL, this year's The Cooler Lumpur Festival explores the ideas of resetting and restarting, and what it means for individuals and society at large. The festival takes places from 1 – 7 October 2018, at MAP @ Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur. British Council in Malaysia is the founding partner of the festival and this marks our sixth year partnering with PopDigital on the festival. We will be welcoming speculative fiction author Laura Lam to take part in this year's future-looking and thought-provoking event.

Originally from sunny California, Lam now lives in cloudy Scotland. Her next novel is the feminist space opera, Seven Devils, co-written with Elizabeth May. Lam is also the author of cyberpunk Pacifica novels: BBC Radio 2 Book Club section False Hearts and the companion novel Shattered Minds. Her fantasy is the award-winning Micah Grey series Pantominme, Shadowplay, and Masquerade. Lam's short fiction and essays have appeared in anthologies such as Nasty Women, Solaris Rising 3, Cranky Ladies of History, an upcoming interdisciplinary project about Scotland in Space through the Edinburgh Futures Institute, and more. She lectures part-time at Edinburgh Napier University on the Creative Writing MA.

At the festival, Lam will be on two panels and conducting a creative writing workshop.
