|Closing date||31 January 2014|
- The post holder will line-manage a team of around 15 mentors who work to provide Malaysian primary teachers with continuous professional development in order to improve the teaching of English in Malaysia. These mentors each work within a cluster of primary schools in Malaysian Borneo, providing on-the-job support through a variety of development activities depending on the individual needs and context of the teachers they are working with.
- The ELTDP’s mentoring approach has been based on an increasing body of work which shows that engaging teachers in reflective thinking, classroom enquiry and collegial collaboration is the most effective approach to sustainable change. In practice British Council mentors have helped Malaysian teachers identify, investigate and address the needs and opportunities presented in their classrooms and schools.
- To be considered, you must possess relevant project management experience, preferably in a development context. In addition you must be a highly proficient speaker of English with a University degree and TEFL Q (or equivalent). Due to the nature of the post, a driver’s licence is essential and you should be a competent user of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). You should also have significant relevant teaching experience as well as teacher training/trainer training skills and experience of teaching/training in a state school system or experience of mentoring would be desirable.
- The start date for the project extension is in early January 2014 and successful applicants should be able to start as soon as possible to help prepare for the start of the extension.
