ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT/TEAM 

In Malaysia, the British Council is known primarily as an English Language teaching service provider as well as promoters of the higher education sector of the UK. Our work in the arts and creative industries focuses in the next 3 years on crafts, creative hubs and brokering and connecting. This includes capacity development, international exchanges, advocacy and policy development. Besides the key programmes, we broker partnerships between UK and Malaysian stakeholders in the arts and creative sectors and will be launching a UK- South East Asia arts mobility programme, Connections through Culture.

Our arts programme fits into the British Council's regional programme priorities and the global key pillars of: Sharing UK arts with the world; Fostering collaborations and networks; Art for social change; capacity building; policy and research.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AND WHY

WHAT IS INTERESTING ABOUT IT

This is a fantastic opportunity of working in an international organisation involved in Arts in Malaysia. There will be opportunities for the postholder to work with regional colleagues and external stakeholders across East Asia. You will be involved in interesting and challenging programmes with a new programme targeted to start in August 2019. This role will be suitable for someone who wish to move into programme/project management in Arts in future.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You will bring along at least one to two years of relevant experience working in project or programme management in the NGO or development sector or enterprise; experience working with artists and cultural institutions is a plus. You should also possess knowledge and experience of finance and administrative work. Good interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills is a must as the postholder will be working with a wide range of stakeholders. Fluency in both Bahasa Malaysia and English is essential.

We are looking for someone who is very organised and diligent. You need to be able to deal with high volume administrative and events delivery tasks. Good knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite and IT is preferred.
